Since 60% of the steel production is produced in integrated steel shops using the Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) it is essential to optimize the productivity of the devices. Major factor affecting the productivity of the vessel is the life performance of the refractory lining. Since the 80tes the optimization of the lining has been realized by high tech magnesia carbon brick installing by zoning as well perfect designing for minimizing the stresses. However the perfect balancing of the wear is very difficult to reach. Slag splashing is very popular in some countries like USA but for productivity reason not used very much in Europe. Minimizing of the maintenance time and optimizing the cost performance is consequently fundamental. The paper is presenting an innovative solution for repairing the impact pad allowing up to 60 heats. Furthermore an efficient gunning material allows the repair of the trunnion and tap hole area.
