Management System on Water Treatment in Continuous Caster

Slime on cooling waterway surface interferes with heat flux at only slight accumulation in continuous casting mold. Therefore, water quality management is extremely important in order to get stable initial condition in the mold. In a conventional water quality, the slime was frequently generated on surface of the cooling waterway of the mold, and it caused a lot of problems. In Godo Steel Himeji works, in order to solve unstable solidification by the slime, a new method of water treatment and water quality management system has been developed and put into commercial operation. As a result, the slime in the waterway of the mold cooling water has been eliminated and steady heat flux in the mold has been established. This paper reports a new management system on water treatment in continuous caster.
