Improvement on Corner Crack Defect for Plate Products Making From Slabs

The corner crack of the plate is mainly caused by the corner transversal cracks and longitudinal corner cracks of slab, which need to cut the slab corner or hand scarf the slab corner before it is discharged to hot rolling mill. Such reworking process will increase costs of rework processing and labor costs, and thus delay feeding furnace time. Therefore, it is important to produce slabs free of corner cracks in order to reduce the reworking of slab. This report will present how a slab caster is kept in a stable condition to maintain a good oscillation of the mold by way of enhancing the homogeneity of secondary cooling and adjusting narrow side taper of the mold. As a consequence, it will reduce the occurring of the corner cracks of slab and keep from the rise of reworking cost.
